25 March 2009, SMA Inverters to
include Bluetooth Communication
SMA
have started rolling out the new
Bluetooth enabled communication for
the SMA Sunny Boy and Windy Boy
inverters. Bluetooth is expected to
be standard on certain models
starting from 2009 and gradually be
extended to all the SMA inverter
range.
SMA offers very powerful data
collection and communication options
for collecting data related to
environmental conditions, power
generation and also offers a free
display of data on
www.sunnyportal.com where
data from PV installations in Malta
is available. This will allow
potential customers to actually
verify the production of electricity
from solar panels in Malta and can
also compare different solar panels
and the electricity generated. Data
is automatically updated on an
hourly basis and can be displayed in
days, months and eventually years.

First TiSUN installation in Malta
Another
first by Solar Solutions Ltd - the
installation of a space heating
system combined with the supply of
domestic hot water. "This
installation was quite challenging
as we had to integrate the TiSUN
system with a fuel oil burner, which
is now used as a backup heating
system", said Jes Farrugia who
designed the system. "However, we
are pleased that TiSUN has
contributed its expertise as
specialized solar thermal suppliers,
and the system is now working
perfectly, including the integration
with the burner".

15th May, 2008 - HSBC Attard
launches new PV tracking system:
HSBC Bank has taken the
environmental initiative and
commissioned Solar Solutions Ltd to
design, configure and install a 2kWp
PV system on 2 tracking systems.
'The tracking should allow for a
higher yield, which will be measured
in close collaboration with the
University of Malta', explained Karl Azzopardi,
Marketing Director for Solar
Solutions Ltd.' The configuration
for this particular system was not
as straightforward as other fixed
systems and we therefore had to
allow for the increased yield all
year round. This meant that we had
to program the inverter to be able
to handle the correct output in a
safe and reliable way in all types
of weather conditions and also
throughout the whole year'.

October, 2007 -
12,000 KW of Solar Energy at St. Benedict
College
The Ministry of education has initiated an
ambitious environmental protection program
so that in time the schools in Malta would
be 'zero Carbon Dioxide' contributors. This
means that the energy usage in the schools
would include the integration of electrical
generation by means of renewable sources,
namely solar power and wind power in such a
quantity that the total consumption of
electricity absorbed from the Enemalta
national grid, would be balanced out by the
production of 'clean' electricity by means
of solar and wind systems. With such systems
state schools will not only be producing
clean energy and reducing dependency on
fossil fuels but will also be educating our
children on how best to use our natural
resources. Education Minister Louis Galea
said this when visiting St. Benedict's
College in Kirkop where a new solar power
system has been installed and which is
expected to produce over 12,000Kw Hrs
annually.
